Villagers lose government benefits under PMAY

Badasahi: Land ownership is central to agriculture growth but lakhs of rural, landless poor are deprived of homestead and cultivable land. The landless villagers of Chengua village under Bhimida panchayat at Badasahi block in Mayurbhanj district have failed to get government benefits as they are deprived of getting the homestead land documents.

The villagers Wednesday met Revenue Inspector of Badali village alleging that they are leading a miserable life without getting the benefits of welfare, housing and social security schemes. Their main problem is that they have not been provided with documents. Locals said that as per official guidelines, people having no land to their name are not entitled to housing units under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

Tension prevails among many villagers are scared here thinking that their name may not be omitted from the PMAY scheme.

Many of the villagers are landless. They have been pleading with the RI for a long time for 4 decimal lands for years but nothing has been done yet.

When asked, the RI said, “If there is any government land space left then only we can consider this appeal.”
