Sundargarh: Large quantity of rice was found buried underground at Gogua gram panchayat office premises under Bonai block in Sundargarh district, a local man said Wednesday.

Reportedly, some villagers noticed rice lying scattered on the ground. Later they discovered a large amount of insect-infested rice buried under the ground in a septic tank.

However, the burial time of the wasted rice is yet to be determined.

The locals are outraged over the misuse of such huge quantities of food grains. They said it would have been much better if the stock were distributed among the poor.

The local food supply officer said that part of the old rice stock sacks, which were stored in one corner of a room, got wasted as a result of heatwave conditions.

The wasted rice has been disposed of, the officer informed.
