Villagers urged to protect wildlife

Malkangiri: The villagers of Matapaka, Koyagiri and Katamateru in Malkangiri block held a meeting here Thursday regarding the safety of wildlife in the nearby forests. The meeting was presided over by naib sarpanch Lasi Sodi.

Wildlife like deer, wild boar, porcupine, barking deer and peacock are seen in the nearby jungles here. The meeting urged the villagers to ensure the safety of these animals and to check poaching.

During the meeting, Matapaka sarpanch Binayak Madakami urged the villagers to stop the killing of animals.

He pointed out that wildlife helps to protect forests. Tribals would get more from forests if they are protected, he added.

Wildlife warden Durjyadhan Patra, Sanjay Sodi, Kasa Sodi, Raja Madi, Imra Madi, Nanda Madakami and others were present in the meeting.
