Sambalpur: An FIR has been lodged following a clash between student groups from Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR), Burla and MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur on VIMSAR campus that took place Tuesday, a source said.

According to the source, the dean of VIMSAR, Burla lodged the FIR and police have launched an investigation into the matter.

The source informed that students of MKCG Medical College in Berhampur had come to attend an inter-medical college event named ‘Euphoria’ which was hosted by VIMSAR.

According to the source, stones were pelted and fire extinguishers were used on a bus in which some MKCG students were present during the afternoon hours of Tuesday.

Some of the students felt suffocated as the bus was locked from outside. Several students from both sides got injured due to the brawl, the source added.

An MKCG student stated that when their bus entered VIMSAR campus, fire extinguisher gas was sprayed inside the bus while some of their students were still inside the vehicle.

On the condition of anonymity, a student of VIMSAR stated that the clash took place after objectionable comments were passed by some students of MKCG Medical College to some VIMSAR girl students.

However, the exact reason behind the commotion is yet to be ascertained.
