VL-SRSAM missile successfully test fired from Chandipur test range

Balasore: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully test fired the Vertically Launched-Short Range Surface to Air Missile (VL-SRSAM) from the Launch Pad No-3 of Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, off the Odisha coast Monday. The test was carried out at 1:28 pm.

The indigenously developed VL-SRSAM is an advanced air defense system. The canister-based weapon system can identify, track, engage and destroy its target with high kill probability. It has a strike range of about 40 km. The defense experts are analysing the radar footage of the missile launch for finer details. It has been said that the new missile will increase the defensive capabilities of the Indian Army.

Prior to the test, as a part of the safety measures, about 8, 000 people residing within 2.5 kilometre radius of the Launch Pad No- 3 were evacuated to temporary shelter homes by 9.00am.
