Volunteers feed Srimandir’s monkeys amid lockdown

Puri: With the 38-day lockdown taking a toll on stray animals dependent on human beings for food, many organisations and Good Samaritans have come forward to the rescue of these animals.

Monday, some of the members of Bhubaneswar Adhyatmika Vidyapitha fed the monkeys in Puri Srimandir. They gave away bananas, biscuits, split chickpeas and other fruits to the monkeys.

With no tourists coming to Srimandir and the Anand Bazaar running of a smaller scale, the monkeys had been more or less starving. “We will feed them every day during the lockdown,” said a member of Bhubaneswar Adhyatmika Vidyapitha.

It may be mentioned here that recently, BJP leader Maneka Gandhi also urged people to feed stray animals and help the animals survive the lockdown.

“I have requested all animal welfare workers to feed the animals during this period of lockdown. I will be doing the same. Please allow them to do so. If there is any problem, please contact me on 08800067890”, Gandhi had tweeted.
