VWDT asks Odisha, Andhra Pradesh to conduct joint survey

New Delhi: The Vamsadhara Water Dispute Tribunal (VWDT) Friday asked Odisha and Andhra Pradesh to conduct a joint survey at the barrages constructed on the Vamsadhara River by Andhra Pradesh.

A three-judge bench of the tribunal comprising Chairperson Dr M.K. Sharma, Justice B.N. Chaturvedi and Justice Pratibha Rani asked both the states to conduct the survey at the Neradi Barrage regarding the submergence of 106 acres of land after the barrage commenced operations.

The Bench also asked both the states to submit the survey report to the tribunal before July 8, the next date of hearing.

The counsel appearing for Odisha, Radheshyam Jena, said the tribunal asked both the states to conduct a joint survey.

The survey will be conducted by the technical teams of both the states and will be headed by officers not below the rank of Superintendent Engineer.

The tribunal also said that the survey would be conducted in the presence of the Central Water Commission.

The VWDT conducted a hearing on the matter for three days. The tribunal recorded the arguments of the Centre and Andhra Pradesh in response to a clarification sought by Odisha.
