Wait is over, war of wits kicks off

Bhubaneswar: Curtains will be raised over Odisha’s most coveted quiz competition ‘Mettle Meet’ at Hotel Swosti Premium here at 10 am Saturday where students converging from 74 top educational institutions of the state will engage in a war of minds in the preliminary rounds. The top eight teams each in Junior and Senior categories will be elevated to the summit clash which is scheduled for Sunday.

The winners in each category will receive Rs 1 lakh cash prize, while the first runners-up will get Rs 50,000 and second runners up Rs 25,000. Renowned quizmaster Ajay Poonia will be conducting the fifth edition of Orissa POST Mettle Meet for the second time. Like in previous years, this year too, the participating schools and colleges have been categorised in two segments.

Students up to Class XII (Junior) comprise the first category, while the second category (Senior) will be for those in Plus III and other streams, including Engineering, Medical, and Management. The August 6 finals will be live-streamed on YouTube and other social media platforms. Mettle Meet started in 2016 with a view to reviving the art of quizzing in Odisha. Eighteen of the state’s top institutions took part in the first edition and, in 2017, there were 45 teams.

Since then, the numbers have grown manifold and, in 2018, there were over 75 educational institutions from across all districts of Odisha which took part in the mega quiz event. The teams had four participants each. Orissa POST is the state’s only home-grown English daily. Since its launch in 2011, the English daily has slowly but steadily carved a niche for itself among readers. It has been the leading source of intelligent information for people. The publication is known for its pro-people and youth-oriented approach.
