Khurda: If you have recently visited Khurda municipality office and new bus stand, you must have noticed murals on the boundary wall of the municipality office and on both sides of the wall of the bus stand. And a selfie corner for youths would not have escaped from your notice either.
The theme of these murals is coronavirus and they are all creating awareness among the denizens on how to win the battle against COVID-19. Khurda municipality has taken this initiative.
While a picture depicts the horrific image of coronavirus, another one shows how to wear mask, another one urges people to obey social distancing in markets and yet another picture makes people aware about importance of masks.
In some other pictures, people are asked to stay at home and take care of children, elderly persons and patients.
These apart, there are also several murals with Odia punch lines such as ‘Corona Hariba, Ame Jitiba’ (we will win the battle against coronavirus), and ‘Corona Niyama paluthiba, Corona Ku Durare Rakhuthiba’ (we keep coronavirus at bay so long as we obey COVID-19 norms).
Apart from these, there are posters and banners put up across the town. “The wall paintings instantly draw our attention. I hope they will serve the purpose,” said a Khurda resident.
When contacted, executive officer of Khurda municipality Swetapadma Satpathy said the number of coronavirus infected persons is on the rise in the municipality area.
“To make people aware about the consequences of following and not following COVID-19 norms, many steps have been taken. These murals are part of them. I hope the paintings will leave a permanent mark on people,” said Satpathy.
