In an interview, Anurag revealed how his 2012 film Gangs of Wasseypur was removed from theatres because of Salman Khan-starrer Ek Tha Tiger. He said people used to talk a lot about Gangs of Wasseypur, but it was removed from theatres in nine days because a big banner film Ek Tha Tiger was upcoming. He clarified that it was not the decision of any star or producer; it was the decision of the theatres. If that film had done a business of Rs 26 crore in just nine days, it would have done more business if it had gotten a bit longer rope.
Anurag said that this is the reason why he keeps the budget of his films low. Anurag Kashyap said, “the process itself is like this, and we do not even have enough cinema halls. I have chosen to make my kind of film in an environment where I understand why it works and why it doesn’t, so the results are mine as long as I don’t lose money to others. This is a lesson I’ve learned, so I keep my budget low.”
