Chhatrapur: In an exemplary act of bravery and swiftness, a firefighting team was in for all praises for saving lives of a septuagenarian woman and her son by rescuing them from a 40-ft deep well at Kumarbegapalli village under this police limits in Ganjam district Sunday.

As per the information available, Annapurna Gouda, aged 75, had accidentally fallen into a well at around 8am Sunday. The well is about 40 feet deep. All this happened before the eyes of her son Tirupati (55) who without giving it a second thought, also jumped into the well to save his mother from being drowned.

By then the incident spread in the village like wild fire. Some villagers contacted the nearby fire station, seeking fire personnel’s immediate help and attention.

In the meanwhile, Tirupati managed to catch hold of his mother and keep her afloat. A fire fighting team reached the spot and launched a rescue operation. Eventually, both were rescued. The entire operation lasted for two hours. The septuagenarian woman was immediately rushed to Chhatrapur sub-divisional hospital for treatment.

Seeing the mother-son duo being taken out of the well, the villagers erupted with joy. Heaping praises on the fire fighters for their efforts, they credited them for giving a new lease of life to both.
