In a bizarre and laugh-out-loud moment caught on CCTV, a would-be robber got a taste of poetic justice when he tried to snatch a mobile phone from a retail store — only to realise he was well and truly trapped.

The viral video, which has taken social media by storm, begins with an unsuspecting shopkeeper showcasing a brand-new smartphone to a man in a hoodie. The man examines the device with keen interest before suddenly making a dash for the exit. However, his grand escape hits an unexpected snag.
In a move that could rival a comedy sketch, the shopkeeper had already locked the door electronically, sensing something fishy. The would-be thief frantically tugs at the handle, realising too late that his plan has backfired spectacularly.

Caught red-handed and out of options, he sheepishly turns around and, in an almost apologetic manner, hands the phone back to the shopkeeper.
