New Delhi: Union Minister for Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Nitin Gadkari Monday conferred National Water Award on Koraput district administration for effective water management.
The district was felicitated in two categories, second best district in rejuvenation and creation of water bodies and in ground water recharge category in east zone.
According to a statement from the ministry, as many as 82 National Water Awards have been distributed by the ministry under 14 categories.
The ministry statement further stated that the prime objective of these awards is to highlight the best efforts in water conservation and encourage all stakeholders including non-government organisations (NGOs), gram panchayats, urban local bodies, water user associations, institutions, corporate sector and individuals to manage their water resources efficiently.
