Water level rises in Baitarani

Bhandaripokhari/Jhumpura: Heavy rain over last two days caused the water level to rise in the Baitarani river in Bhadrak. Water level at Akhuapada under Bhandaripokhari block was measured at 17.7 metre at Saturday morning. Later, the water level receded to some extent. However, it again rose to 17.9 metre. If heavy rain continues in the upper reaches of the river, there is a possibility of water level to rise in the river and lead to flood, said sources in the office for Akhuapada anicut.

Akhuapada recorded 92.8 mm rainfall, Anandapur 38.6mm, Keonjhar 14.2 mm, Champua 11.1 mm, Thakurmunda 14.8 mm and Sompatana 3.2 mm.

Reports from Jumpura said water level suddenly rose in Baitarani near Kendughati village under this block of Keonjhar in Saturday afternoon. The villages remained cut off from the rest of the world.

In the absence of a bridge, people have started using boats to pass the river. They are panicked over possibility of floodwater entering the village. They demanded immediate help from the authorities.
