Choudwar: Due to water logging in several areas in Tangi-Choudwar block in Cuttack district, a woman in labour pain had to walk half a kilometre to an ambulance waiting for her.
The incident which has triggered resentment among the villagers was reported from Birol village of Napang panchayat.
Owing to incessant rains for last few days, the village road was completely submerged and the dirty rainwater had even entered into most houses.
It was about Friday noon when the villagers were struggling with water logging problems that the wife of Ratnakar Behera, a resident of Gopal sahi of Birol village, complained of labour pain.
The family members immediately called 108 for ambulance service. The 108 ambulance reached the village but could not enter the village and waited for the patient at the main road. The driver hesitated to go into the village as there was no sign of a motorable road in the submerged village.
Finding no other way out, the family members made the woman wade through the accumulated water for as long as half a kilometre.
The infuriated villagers demanded immediate steps for draining out the accumulated rainwater.
We have taken up the issue with the administration many a time but to avail, alleged some villagers.
When contacted, sarpanch Sanatan Swain said there is money for getting a drain constructed, but the work on it cannot be started as some villagers have encroached upon government land. The matter will be brought to the notice of the BDO for early commencement of the work.
