Water scarcity grips Sambalpur village

Padiabahal: Acute water scarcity has gripped Marangbahal village under Jujumura block in Sambalpur district. With no provision of drinking water, people are forced to consume contaminated water from ponds to quench their thirst.

The total population of this village is 150. There is provision for two tube wells and a solar powered pump for the villagers. But unfortunately, both tube- wells and the solar powered pump have been lying defunct for the last seven months.

The panchayat has been tasked with maintenance of the tube wells and the solar powered pump but the sarpanch has allegedly failed to take care of this.

According to Manoranjan Nayak and Gopal Meher of the village, they have taken up the matter with the panchayat executive officer many times in the past, but to no avail.

In the summer water crises will worsen. So the villagers request the administration through the media to take quick action for repairing both tube wells and the pump.
