Dabugaon: Drinking water supply in villages continues to be inadequate, despite many efforts by the government and communities at various levels. Though investment in water resources has increased manifold, its availability to every section of population has remained low despite the fact that some villages have tube wells, bore wells and water bodies.
Take the case of Dangriguda village in Dabugaon Block under Borigaon panchayat limits in Nabarangpur district. Almost 700 people of this village face water shortage.
According to reports, seven tube wells were set up in the village but in Ward No 9, residents have no water. “We have to walk half a mile to fetch water from a school. And, due to summer season, underground water level has declined resulting in low level of water,” villagers said.
They also said that sometimes they have to walk miles to get water from Bhaskel River which is a difficult task. Many a time, locals tried to draw the attention of the district officials to the water problem, but in vain.
