Water shortage hits sanitation in ODF ward

Joda: Even as the Central government attaches priority on sanitation, people in ward-10 of Joda municipality in Keonjhar  have to defecate in the open despite three community toilet. Reason: shortage of water.

Locals said, they have been unable to use toilets for the last three months due to water shortage. In such circumstance, they were forced to relieve themselves in the open.

“A bore well was made by the civic body for the purpose, but no provision has been made to supply water to the toilets,” said residents like Pratima Pradhan, Muni Purty, Kaima Munda, Manju Gupta and Rina Karua.

They also alleged that though they had drawn attention of the civic body to the problem, nothing has been done till date.

Surprisingly, the ward has been declared open defecation free ward, but reality speaks differently.

Councilor Suresh Barik said that a bore well has not been fully operational. He demanded that the civic body should sort out the problem immediately.
