Badamba: As the flood triggered by incessant rain in upper and downstream of Mahanadi submerged the shrine of the presiding deity of famous Shakti Peeth Maa Bhattarika, She was shifted to a safer location Wednesday morning.
The temple, situated at Badamba on the banks of Mahanadi River in Athagarh area of Cuttack district, was inundated with flood water following which the idol of Goddess Bhattarika was relocated to a higher place of the hill for worship.
According to reports, the flood water was flowing 5 ft above the Huluhula Bridge, halting the road communication between Tigiria and Subarnapur. Over a hundred acres of farmland has also been affected.
When the last reports came in, water was flowing inside the temple more than 4 ft. Incessant rain for the past four days has created a flood-like situation in Mahanadi River and villages like Bangarasahi, Telania, Mugaheri, Kantapada and Mangarajpur were waterlogged, sources said.
BDO Sadanand Sethi and tehsildar Anil Kumar Pattnaik said they visited various areas and took stock of the situation.
