Tikiri: Frustration erupted among women over shortage of drinking water in Tikiri area as they took to the streets holding water pots and buckets to call out the administrative apathy, Monday.
As per reports, for the last three months, residents of Tikiri panchayat under Kashipur block in Rayagada district have been grappling with water woes.
Stand posts have been installed for drinking water supply to every household in the area but the taps do not give out water. This has put the local people in a fix. The state government is spending crores of rupees for drinking water supply at Jhodia Sahi in Tikiri panchayat but the reality shows an entirely different picture.
Roads were blocked at two spots by residents of Dora Sahi and Harijan Sahi.
In the absence of adequate water supply, the people have to depend on the open stream water putting their health at risk of many waterborne diseases like diarrhoea. The local intelligentsia has demanded immediate steps to address the issue. Road traffic was affected due to the blockade staged by women.
After receiving information, police personnel arrived at the spot and tried to placate the protesting locals but to no avail. The women were adamant as they declined to go off the street until the administration promises them timely intervention into the problem.
