Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of IMD Bhubaneswar in its weather alert June 16, 2023 issued an Orange Warning for heatwave to severe heatwave across several Odisha districts.

Upto 8.30 AM of June 17: As per the Orange Warning (be prepared) heatwave to severe heatwave conditions very likely to prevail at a few places over Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Subarnapur, Boudh, Bolangir, Cuttack, Khurda and Nayagarh districts.

As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), heatwave condition is very likely to prevail at one or two places over Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur and Puri districts.

As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface windspeed reaching 40-50kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Gajapati, Ganjam, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur and thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh districts.

In the same timeframe, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of Koraput, Gajapati, Ganjam, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur and at one or two places over the rest districts of the state.

From 8.30 AM of June 17 to 8.30 AM of June 18: As per the Orange Warning (be prepared) heatwave to severe heatwave condition is very likely to prevail at a few places over Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Bargarh and Subarnapur districts.

As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), heatwave condition is very likely to prevail at one or two places over Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Boudh, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Khurda and Nuapada districts.

As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Koraput, Kandhamal and Nabarangapur districts.

In the same time frame, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at one or two over the districts of coastal Odisha, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangapur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal. Dry weather is very likely to prevail over the rest districts of the state.

The weather agency forecasted no large change in maximum temperature (day) during the next four days and a slight fall thereafter at many places over the districts of the state. It is likely to be above normal by 4-7 degree Celsius at a few places over the districts of Odisha during the next four days. Consequently, hot and discomfort weather is likely during the next four to five days. People are advised to take precautionary measures while going outside from 11 am to 3 pm.

In Bhubaneswar, for the next 24 hours, heatwave condition is predicted by IMD. Maximum and minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 44 degree Celsius and 27 degree Celsius respectively.

In the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature of 44.8 degree Celsius was recorded at Jharsuguda while the lowest minimum temperature of 23.5 degree Celsius was recorded at Phulbani, the bulletin informed.
