Weather alert June 18, 2023: IMD flags heatwave warning for these Odisha districts

Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of IMD Bhubaneswar in its weather alert June 18, 2023 issued an Orange Warning for heatwave to severe heatwave across several Odisha districts.

Upto 8.30 AM of June 19: As per the Orange Warning (be prepared) heatwave to severe heatwave condition is very likely to prevail at a few places over Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Angul, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Subarnapur, Bolangir, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khurda, Cuttack, Dhenkanal and Boudh districts.

As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), heatwave condition is very likely to prevail at one or two places over Jajpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada and Mayurbhanj districts.

As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface windspeed reaching 40-50kmph are very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak.

Besides, thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Boudh, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Gajapati and Ganjam districts.

In the same timeframe, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur in a few places over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Kandhamal, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore and at one or two places over the remaining districts of Odisha.

From 8.30 AM of June 19 to 8.30 AM of June 20: As per the Orange Warning (be prepared), heatwave to severe heatwave condition is very likely to prevail at a few places over Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Subarnapur, Bolangir, Boudh, Kandhamal, Angul and Deogarh districts.

As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), heatwave condition is very likely to prevail at one or two places over Nuapada, Kalahandi, Nayagarh, Khurda, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts.

As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jajpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nabarangpur, Koraput and Malkangiri districts.

In the same time frame, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at one or two over the districts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Mayurbhanj, Balasore and at one or two places over the remaining districts of Odisha.

The weather agency forecasted no large change in maximum temperature (day) over the next three days and a slight fall of 3-5 degree Celsius thereafter at many places in the state.

The maximum temperature is very likely to be above normal by 4-7 degree Celsius at a few places in the districts of Odisha over the next three days. Consequently, hot and humid weather is likely during the next three days. People are advised to take precautionary measures while going outside from 11am to 3pm.

In Bhubaneswar, for the next 24 hours, heatwave condition is predicted by IMD. Maximum and minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 42 degree Celsius and 29 degree Celsius respectively.

In the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature of 45.7 degree Celsius was recorded at Subarnapur while the lowest minimum temperature of 23.5 degree Celsius was recorded at Boudh and Dhenkanal, the Weather alert of June 18, 2023 informed.
