Weather alert June 19, 2023: Severe heatwave likely in these Odisha districts

Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of IMD Bhubaneswar in its weather alert June 19, 2023 issued an Orange Warning for heatwave to severe heatwave across several Odisha districts.

Upto 8.30 AM of June 20: As per the Orange Warning (be prepared), heatwave to severe heatwave condition is very likely to prevail at a few places over Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Subarnapur and Bolangir districts.

As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts.

In the same timeframe, Light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at a few places over the districts of south Odisha, north coastal Odisha, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and at one or two places over the rest districts of the state.

From 8.30 AM of June 20 to 8.30 AM of June 21: As per the Orange Warning (be prepared), heatwave to severe heatwave condition is very likely to prevail at a few places over Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sonepur and Bolangir districts.

As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nawarangapur, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts.

In the same time frame, light to moderate rain or thunderstorm is very likely to occur at one or two over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal and at one or two places over the remaining districts of Odisha.

As per the weather report, the maximum temperature (day) is very likely to fall gradually by 4 to 6 degree Celsius during the next three days and no large change thereafter at many places over the districts of Odisha.

The maximum temperature is very likely to be above normal by 4-6 degree Celsius in some districts of interior Odisha over the next two days. Consequently, hot and humid weather is likely over the next two days. People are advised to take precautionary measures (avoid heat exposure, keep cool and avoid dehydration) while going outside during day time from 11 am to 3 pm.

In Bhubaneswar, for the next 24 hours, a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of moderate rain or thunderstorm is predicted by IMD. Maximum and minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 38 degree Celsius and 26 degree Celsius respectively.

In the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature of 46.0 degree Celsius was recorded at Sambalpur while the lowest minimum temperature of 19.0 degree Celsius was recorded at Angul, the Weather alert of June 19, 2023, informed.
