Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of IMD in Bhubaneswar in its weather bulletin for Thursday has said that a cyclonic circulation lies over northeast and adjoining east-central Bay of Bengal between 4.5 to 7.6 kilometre above mean sea level tilting southwards with height. Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over north Bay of Bengal around August 18, 2023.
Upto 8.30 AM of August 17: As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), thunderstorm with lightning is very likely to occur at one or two places over Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Keonjhar Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh and Kandhamal districts.
The weather agency also said that heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Malkangiri, Koraput and Nabarangpur districts.
In the same timeframe, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at many places over the districts Odisha.
From 8.30 AM of August 17 to 8.30 AM of August 18: As per the Orange Warning (be prepared), heavy to very rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over Puri, Khurda, Cuttack, Angul and Sambalpur districts.
As per the Yellow Warning (be updated), heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Bargarh, Boudh, Subarnapur, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri and Koraput districts.
In the same time frame, light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur at most places over the districts of the state.
Impact and action suggested for Orange Warning:
- Temporarily waterlogging is likely in low-lying areas.
- Poor visibility during intense spells of rain and traffic congestion in urban areas. Traffic advisory may be seen for movement in your destination.
- Possibility of wall collapse of vulnerable kutcha houses and some damage to kutcha road. Avoid staying in vulnerable houses.
- Possibility of Landslides in vulnerable hilly areas in Malkangiri, Koraput, Gajapati, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and Kandhamal districts.

In Bhubaneswar, for the next 24 hours, rain or thundershower is likely to occur towards afternoon or evening. Maximum and minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 35 degree Celsius and 26 degree Celsius respectively.
In the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature of 35.9 degree Celsius was recorded at Chandbali while the lowest minimum temperature of 23.0 degree Celsius was recorded at Phulbani and Nabarangpur, the bulletin informed.
