Bareilly: What was supposed to be a joyous wedding turned into a battleground when a drunken groom, instead of garlanding his bride, ended up decorating her best friend! The bride, Radha Devi, 21, wasted no time in giving him a tight slap and storming off, calling off the wedding on the spot.
The chaos began when the groom, Ravindra Kumar, 26, arrived fashionably late with his baraat. If that wasn’t enough, his family allegedly demanded more dowry despite already receiving Rs 4.5 lakh from the bride’s side. Meanwhile, whispers in the air suggested that Ravindra had his heart set on someone else.
Fuelled by liquor, he reportedly misbehaved with the bride’s relatives before staggering onto the stage for the ‘varmala’ ceremony. But instead of placing the garland around his bride’s neck, he “accidentally” threw it onto her best friend. The stunned guests watched in horror before Radha swiftly delivered a slap heard across the venue.
Then, all hell broke loose. Chairs flew, fists clenched, and the wedding turned into a wrestling ring. The police had to step in, sending the baraat packing. The groom now faces legal trouble for demanding dowry, while one of his friends has been arrested for supplying illicit liquor.
