Western Odisha: Two-day complete shutdown begins in Burla, five doctors, two nurses put under home quarantine

Burla: With COVID-19 positive cases rising rapidly across Burla area, Sambalpur Muncipal Corporation has enforced a two-day shutdown in Burla NAC areas starting from Thursday.

However, no shutdown will be enforced in the VIMSAR campus.

On the other hand, ten nurses and five doctors of Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Science and Reasearch Centre (VIMSAR) in Burla asked to observe 14-day home quarantine as they had come in contact with two COVID-19 patients.

According to sources, the doctors and nurses had come in contact with the COVID-19 positive person during the treatment, who had visited VIMSAR for some other treatment. Later they found COVID-19 positive.  Their family members have also been advised to stay in home quarantine.

Health department officials have collected swab samples of the doctors and nurses and sent those for testing.

The areas where shutdown restrictions will be impsoed for two days in Burla are Ward No. 3 and 7. The areas which come under the five wards are Fhandi Chhaka, Gopabandhu Chhaka, Board Colony, Telegu Pada, Gurudwar Colony, Contractor Colony, Gandhi Pada and Bhakti Manday.

During the shutdown period, movement of public and private vehicles will be restricted. Shops and other commercial establishments, government and private organizations, except Medicine will remain shut, the SMC said.
