Rajnagar: The carcass of a whale was found near a secluded beach at Habalikhati along the coast of Bay of Bengal under Rajnagar block in Kendrapara district.
The head of the 50-foot-long whale was almost decomposed.
On getting information, forest officials and a veterinarian reached the spot and conducted the post-mortem. Later the carcass was buried.
The autopsy revealed that the whale was killed after being hit by a speeding trawler.
It was also learnt that the large animal died around one and half months ago.
The veterinarian had sent samples of the dead whale for further examination at the Animal Research Institute at Phulnakhara in Cuttack district.
