Kakatpur, Dec 3: A 20-ft whale was spotted by fishermen along Keluni estuary in Astarang Wednesday. Sources said the whale was washed ashore to Beleswar River in the wee hours of Wednesday. The aquatic animal could not make it to the sea even as the water level of the river receded. Daluakani range forester Umesh Mohanty with the help of the fishermen tried release the whale back into the sea, but in vain. The whale died at around 10am, said the fishermen. Veterinary officer B Pradhan conducted a post-mortem before the carcass was buried.
