Malkangiri: A wild bear was rescued by the forest officials who had strayed into Balimela town of Malkangiri district late Tuesday night.
According to locals, the bear was often spotted by locals in the town while it was in search of food. However, its presence in the area triggered panic among the residents who in turn informed the Forest Department officials.
On being informed, team forest officials reached the town and laid a trap. After much difficulty, they managed to capture the bear.
The bear was later released into Chitrakonda forest by the officials.
Locals have alleged that wild animals often stray into the town as their natural habitat is decreasing day by day.
