Cuttack: A woman and her two children sustained critical burn injuries in a fire that broke out in their house at Bentaguda village under Athagarh police limits in Cuttack district late Thursday night.
The woman, her daughter and son were sleeping in their house when the incident took place. The injured are Jinajini Sahoo (30), her son Asish Sahoo (9) and Arpita Sahoo (12).
According to information, the woman lit the mosquito coil, kept it in the corner of a room of the house and went to sleep with her children. The mosquito coil burnt out and somehow ignited the fire, injuring the trio and damaging properties including some essential items in the house.
Neighbours, who heard their scream, rushed to the spot and rescued them.
The victims were first admitted to Athagarh community health centre (CHC). They were later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for better treatment. Their condition is stated to be serious.
