Woman attacked, raped; two men detained

Kendrapara: A 45-year-old woman was allegedly physically assaulted and raped by a man with the help of his associate Saturday night in Derabish Police Station limits.

Sources said the woman hails from Rajnagar village. Police said the culprits tied her hands with her saree to the pillar of the funeral room at the local cremation ground and raped her.

The survivor said that she was sleeping with her husband at her house late Saturday night. Two men from the village, Jairam  Mallick, (28), and Bapi alias Rajkishore Mallick, (30), came to her house and knocked on the door.

She said that when her husband opened the door the men attacked her husband. She said her husband was forced to flee to save himself.

She said that later the men forcibly took her after finding her hiding in a corner of the house.

The woman alleged that the men assaulted her and one of them raped her, after tying her hands with her saree to a pillar of the funeral room at the local cremation ground.

The survivor said the two men assaulted her and forced her to bring her daughter to them. She said that she later went to her daughter’s house and stayed there. The two men threatened to kill her and her husband if she told about the rape to anyone.

On Sunday, the woman lodged an FIR regarding this at the Derabish Police Station.

Police said that it has not been established whether the woman was raped, but the preliminary inquiry found the men had molested and assaulted her brutally.

“The survivor lodged an FIR Sunday alleging that she was physically assaulted and molested by the two men. We have recorded her statement. But later she changed her statement and said she was raped by one of the men with the help of the other. The police have registered a case (No: 168 dated December 16, 2018 under Section 452, 323, 325, 366, 354(b), 342, 506 and 34 of IPC) and have launched an inquiry. The two men have been detained,” said IIC Sudhir Kumar Sahu of Derabish Police Station.

The woman was produced in the SDJM court of Kendrapara Monday to record her statement under Section 164. Her medical examination will be held Tuesday.

The police will take action as per the medical report, and would arrest the men if needed and present them in court, IIC Sahu said.

In the last four days three rape cases, including a gang-rape, were registered in Kendrapara district.
