Woman befriends men, husband loots them; con couple held in Puri

Puri: The town police Friday arrested a couple on charges of conning youths and looting lakhs of rupees here in a typical Bollywood film style.

First, the woman could befriend youths through social media and lure them into meeting her in isolated places. Later, her husband would terrorise and loot them. This was the modus operandi of the couple.

Police registered a case and produced them before Puri SDJM court. Later, they were remanded in judicial custody after the court rejected their bail pleas.

Police recovered a gold chain, a scooty motorcycle, two mobile phones and a toy gun from their possession.  The couple has been identified as Santosh Das alias Raja (30) and his wife Ria of Kalikadevi Sahi here.

According to the report, the latest victim was a B Tech student of a private college in Bhubaneswar.

Ria first initiated a relationship with the youth through facebook and Whatsapp and pretended that she was in love with him after a few chats. It was when she became dead sure that the youth was very much in her net, she asked him to come to meet her in Puri.

Unaware of her evil intention, the youth took a bus November 12 and arrived in Puri and from. He then received a call after 10 minutes from Ria who said that Santosh (her husband) was her friend and would take him to her place.

Without sensing anything wrong, the youth rode pillion. At a secluded place, Santosh stopped the motorcycle and terrorised the youth wielding weapons and subsequently fled the spot after robbing the youth of his one gold chain, a mobile phone and Rs 5,000.

Fearing of being ridiculed, the youth did not inform any one and returned Bhubaneswar. Later, he registered a complaint with the town police station after which the police swung into action and zeroed in on the couple.
