Sambalpur: In a tragic incident that took place late Tuesday night, a man allegedly burnt his wife alive at Fatatangar village of Kuchinda under Mahulapali police limits in Sambalpur district.
The deceased woman has been identified as Lilima Rana and the accused as Raghuraj. Police have arrested Raghuraj based on an FIR lodged by the woman’s brother. The man committed the heinous crime due to the result of a family feud, sources said.
They informed that Raghuraj was in an inebrieted condition when he returned home in the evening. He and his wife Lilima had a huge altercation. Later, Lilima went to her father’s house located in the same village. Her father convinced her to return to her husband’s house at around 11.00pm and she came back.
Little did she know what fate had in store for her. When Lilima returned home, Raghuraj took her to a room, doused her with an inflammable material and put her on fire.
Hearing the agonizing screams of of Lilima, some neighbours rushed to the house and rescued her. By then she had suffered serious burns. They immediately took Lilima in an ambulance and admitted her to Kuchinda sub-divisional hospital. However, she succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment.
On being informed by some residents, Mahulapali police reached the Fatatangar village and launched a probe. Police have sent Lilima’s body for post-mortem.
A case has also been registered in this connection.
