Nayagarh: In a tragic incident, a 22-year-old woman was burnt to death and her husband suffered critical burn injuries after a cooking gas cylinder exploded at Biridihi village under Khandapada police limits in Nayagarh district Tuesday.
The deceased has been identified as Minja Jena, wife of Silu Jena, whose condition is learnt to be critical.
According to a source, like any other day, Minja was preparing food Tuesday morning. Suddenly, the cylinder caught fire and exploded, leaving no time for Minja to escape. Hearing the explosion, Silu rushed to the kitchen to rescue his wife. In the process, he also sustained burn injuries.
Family members with the help of neighbours rushed Silu to Khandapada community health centre (CHC). He was later shifted to Nayagarh district headquarters hospital (DHH) as his condition deteriorated.
On being informed, fire personnel and a team from Khandapada police station reached the spot. After the flame was tamed, the body was retrieved and sent for postmortem.
A detailed investigation is underway, it was learnt.
