Angul: A married woman allegedly killed herself by jumping in front of a moving train near Pingua village in Banarpal area of Angul district Wednesday, officials said. The deceased has been identified as Gitanjali Rout (54).
Eyewitnesses said that the woman was hiding inside a bush close to the railway tracks. When she heard the sound of an approaching train she jumped in front of it and was run over. Her body was severed into two pieces.
Police have recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem. They have also launched a probe to ascertain why the deceased took such a drastic step.
Initially services on the Bhubaneswar-Angul line were disrupted for some time. However, as per latest reports, the train services have returned to normalcy with the removal of the body.
