Cuttack: Bidanasi police, Saturday, claimed to have arrested a woman and her daughter on charges of assaulting a lady sub-inspector, Friday.
Police registered a case against accused Laxmipriya Nayak, 55, and her daughter Jharana Nayak, 22, of Baimundi Nagar as per a complaint lodged by sub-inspector Sarmistha Sahu. The mother-daughter duo was later produced in a local court, police said.
According to the police, Laxmipriya’s family has encroached upon a piece of land of Hrushikesh Panda at Baimundi Nagar. Panda had approached a local court seeking removal of encroachment from his land.
Intervening in the issue, the court had directed Bidanasi police to probe into the issue. Laxmipriya and her daughter assaulted Bidanasi police sub-inspector Sarmistha Sahu when she went to Baimundi Nagar to probe the land encroachment allegation, police said.
“Laxmipriya and her daughter also tried to assault our officials who went to Baimundi Nagar to arrest the duo,” said Bidanasi police in-charge Laxminarayan Tiwary.
