Kendrapara: In a heartrending incident, a woman and her daughter died as lightning struck them while they were out doing fishing Monday morning. A boy and another woman of the same village received severe burn injuries. The incident occurred in Mahakalapara area of this district.
As informed by Bijay Parida, Ranger of Mahakalapada forest range, four persons including three women and a boy from a family from Jambu village were on the way to the Hukitola river confluence for fishing. They were on a small country boat fitted with a motor.
Lightning struck the boat, killing one woman and her daughter on the spot while the boy aged around 17 and another woman, a relative of the deceased, were injured.
Fishermen near the sport rescued the two injured. They were admitted to the Community Health Center (CHC) at Mahakalapada. The other local fishermen on their way to the Hukitola confluence returned to their village following the incident.
Police arrived at the village and set the bodies for autopsy.
