Woman dies after being attacked with axe in Sundargarh, husband critical

Sundargarh: A woman died on the spot and her husband sustained grievous injuries after being attacked by a miscreant with sharp weapon late Sunday night while both were sleeping inside their kutcha house at Junadihi under Sadar police limits in Sundargarh.

According to a police source, the deceased woman was identified as Bachi Oram and her husband as Madhu. The wife and husband duo went asleep at night after having their dinners. Later, an unidentified miscreant attacked them with an axe and fled from the spot.

The wife Bachi succumbed to her injuries on the spot. After hearing screams of the couple, some neighbours rushed to the spot to extend help. They found Madhu in a pool of blood and immediately sent him to Sundargarh district headquarters hospital (DHH) for treatment.

Subsequently, the injured was shifted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla after his condition deteriorated. He is now undergoing treatment, the official stated.

On being informed, Sadar police reached the spot in Junadihi village. Police have registered a case in this connection and initiated a probe. Preliminary investigation suggests that they were attacked over past enmity, a senior official in Sadar police station expressed.
