Keonjhar: A woman died in an elephant attack while she had gone to the nearby forest at Chatirisahi of Uparadiha village under Ghatagaon forest range in this district Tuesday night. The body of the woman was recovered from the forest, Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Bela Munda, a widow living at her daughter’s house.
As per sources, the woman had gone to the forest Tuesday afternoon. However, she did not return home at night. After a frantic search, her family members found her mutilated body in the forest Wednesday and informed the Forest department. Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF), Prabhat Kanhar said Rs 60,000 assistance was provided by the Forest department to the kin of the deceased woman. Elephants are heading towards the villages in search of food and after eating the paddy crops in the farm lands the pachyderms are taking rest in forests close to the villages. As a result, such accidents are happening, alleged the villagers.
