Woman dies of snakebite, family tries to bring her back through black magic

Udala: In yet another case of sorcery practices still existing in the remote parts of the state, family members of a woman killed of snakebite in Kathaphala village under Udala police limits in Mayurbhanj district Wednesday tried to bring her back to life by performing black magic.

According to family members, the victim identified as one Aarti Majhi (50) of Kathaphala village under Udala police limits in Mayurbhanj district had been bitten by a venomous snake Wednesday. After she turned critical due to the impact of the poison of the reptile, family members rushed her to Udala Hospital immediately. Doctors declared her brought dead soon after receiving the body.

However, instead of cremating the body, the victim’s family members subjected it to black magic Wednesday after getting misguided by a village quack, who promised to bring the dead back to life.

As the efforts of the quack went in vein the body was cremated later.
