Golamunda, June 2: A woman was electrocuted while trying to save her five-year-old daughter at Nuapada in Jayantpur village under K Gaon police limits in Kalahandi district Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Rasa Majhi (32), wife of Nakul Majhi in the village.
According to reports, Rasa came in contact with a charged earthing wire of a utility pole after her daughter, who was playing nearby, fell on the wire. Her relatives and locals rescued the two and rushed them to the Bhawanipatna DHH where she was declared dead. Her daughter is undergoing treatment.
The husband of the deceased held the electricity department responsible for the incident.
“The incident took place at around 9am when my daughter playing near the house accidentally fell on the earthing wire and received electric shock. My wife rushed to the spot and fell victim while trying to save our daughter,” he said.
Locals demanded a probe into how the earthing wire was charged with electric current. Police registered a case and sent the body for post-mortem.
