Jajpur: In a shocking incident, a woman, looking for a job to run the errands of her family after being estranged from her husband was allegedly gangraped by three men on the false promise of job in Panikoili area in this district.

Police swung into action after the victim lodged a written complaint in this connection Saturday evening and arrested two of the rapists in this connection while another was on the run after the incident.

The arrested accused have been identified as Badhia Mallick and Lala Mallick from Chilipada village under Dhaneswar panchayat under Korei police limits.  The absconding accused has been identified as Honey Rout. Meanwhile, police detained Honey’s father for interrogation.

According to the complainant, the woman from Kuakhia area was staying at Tripalapur village near Brahmabarada here after being separated from her husband. She worked as a sweeper in a Bhubaneswar-based private college.

She had gone to Panikoili to meet a relative who had promised her of a job. While she was sitting on a bench under a tree for her relative, a person approached her and asked if she was waiting for someone.

The woman said she was searching for some work. Before leaving the spot, the man introduced her to Lala who was standing nearby and said he would give her a job at a vehicle showroom.

Later, Lala called his accomplices Badhia and Honey and the trio took the woman on the pretext of meeting the vehicle showroom owner. However, they misled her to a deserted house at Santara square under Vyasanagar municipality where they took turns on her.

On hearing her screams, three people came to her rescue. But the trio looted Rs 8,000 from her and lured the youths who left after taking the money.

Later, the trio allegedly gang-raped the woman the whole night before dumping her at Chilipada square Saturday morning after threatening her not to disclose the matter to anyone.

Left with no option, the victim was sobbing and walking towards the bus-stand to return back to home. However, the trio once again arrived at the spot in a car and tried to drag her into the vehicle.

However, some locals thrashed them and rescued the victim. They then informed the Korei police following which the cops reached the spot and sent the victim for medical examination.

“Two persons have been arrested and a manhunt has been launched to nab the absconder,” police said.
