Woman hacked to death by brother-in-law in Ganjam

Berhampur: A man hacked his sister-in-law to death in the premises of a temple at Venkatarapalli village under Aska police limits of Ganjam district Sunday.

The deceased woman has been identified as Ranjita Nahak (40) from Venkatarapalli village.

Sources said, Ranjita had gone to the temple village at 5am to offer Puja to Lord Shiva on occasion of Sankranti. While she was returning from the temple her brother-in-law Mochiram Nahak hit her head with the help of an iron rod from her backside.

Ranjita fell unconscious on the spot after sustaining grievous injuries on her head and breathed her last.

After committing the crime, the accused fled from the place.

However, some villagers who had also come to the temple found her dead body and informed the police about the incident.

On being informed, police reached the spot, recovered the body for postmortem and started an investigation. Ranjita’s husband Sudam Nahak lodged an FIR against his brother at Aska police station.

Family feud is suspected to the reason behind the attack, police said. A manhunt has been launched to trace and nab the accused, cops added.
