Sambalpur: A 22-year-old woman has been allegedly abducted and raped for about ten days by a man at Kuchinda here, police said.
Somya Ranjan Dharua (28) allegedly kidnapped the woman July 21 and took her to his house where he raped her at gunpoint for about ten days, police said. The woman managed to escape from captivity July 30 but her parents refused to lodge a complaint out of fear, police said.
The accused allegedly also kidnapped the woman’s brother-in-law and threatened to kill him. However, he released the man, following which the woman reported the incident with Kuchinda Police August 7.
Sambalpur SP Sanjeev Arora said the accused was arrested Wednesday under several sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act. A pistol has also been seized from the possession of the accused.
Inspector-in-charge of Kuchinda Police Station PK Karna said that medical examination of the woman and the accused was conducted.
