Patana: A 23-year-old married woman committed suicide by consuming pesticide at Rasapada village under Tendera panchayat and Saharpada block in Keonjhar district Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Lilabati.
According to sources, Lilabati’s husband works in a construction company at Hyderabad. However, she was being tortured both physically and mentally by her in-laws since her marriage over petty issues, alleged her family members. She took the extreme step after her in-laws scolded and assaulted her Wednesday, they added.
Unable to bear the trauma of torture by her in-laws, Lilabati had taken shelter in the forest twice earlier, alleged her father. As per the complaint of the family members of the deceased, a case (245/24) has been registered at Patana police station and an investigation was launched into the incident, said Patana PS, ASI Laxman Majhi.
