Bhawanipatna: A woman committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving train after killing her two minor sons in Singhjharan village under Bhawanipatna Sadar police limits of Kalahandi district Monday.
Police identified the woman as Bimala Majhi and her sons as four-years-old Rabindra Majhi and six-years-old Dushmant Majhi.
Local residents initially spotted the body of the woman on the railway track and then immediately informed the police. On reaching the spot, the police recovered the bodies for postmortem.
“The woman killed her sons by slitting their throats before jumping in front of the train,” a police officer said.
According to her family members, the relationship between Bimala and her husband Linga Majhi had been strained since last couple of days over the latter’s second marriage. Bimala might have lost her mental balance and taken the extreme step, they suspected. That said, they also hold Linga responsible for indirectly abetting Bimala to end her family.
Further police investigation into the matter is on.
