Tumudibandh (Kandhamal): A female Maoist cadre was killed during an encounter with security forces near Tumudibandha forest in Kandhamal district Wednesday, reports said.
Acting on reliable inputs about the presence of the rebels in the area, the security forces launched a joint search operation in the Sirla forest. However, the red rebels on seeing the forces opened fire at them. The security personnel retaliated in which a female Maoist cadre was killed, Kandhamal, Superintendent of Police, Prateek Singh told reporters here.
Four guns, three grenades and other materials used by the Maoist have been seized from the spot. The Special Operation Group (SOG) and District Voluntary Force (DVF) have intensified the combing operation in the area following the incident, informed, ADG (operation) RP Koche.
A few days back, in Malkangiri district, a group of 25 armed Maoists had killed a road construction supervisor and also torched three vehicles and an excavator at the site.
The incident took place at Kukurkandi village under Mathili police limits. According to the Malkangiri Superintendent of Police Jagmohan Meena, the supervisor was tied to a tree during the raid.
While other employees and workers fled from the spot, the body of the supervisor identified as that of Prabhat Bishoyee, was found in a forest near the construction site, Meena stated.
The Maoists had earlier issued a threat seeking an immediate halt to the road construction, police said. The red rebels of neighbouring Chhattisgarh are suspected to be involved in the killing and investigation is in progress, the SP said.
