Woman marries brother-in-law in husband’s presence in Odisha’s Subarnapur district

Sonepur: A married woman tied the knot with her brother-in-law in front of her husband at Subalaya village in Odisha’s Subarnapur district, a source said Sunday.

The woman was identified as Jhilli Pradhan (22) from Angul district. She was married to Madhab Pradhan from Subarnapur district three years ago, the source informed.

According to the source, Madhab’s cousin Parameswar often used to visit their house. With the passage of time, Parameswar and Jhilli became close. They used to meet each other in Madhab’s absence.

Jhili and Parameswar eloped and went into hiding when the illicit affair came to fore.

Subsequently, Madhab approached the police regarding Jhilli’s whereabouts.

The couple was found by the cops following a week’s hiding.

Upon being found, the couple insisted on getting married to each other as per rituals.

The family members of Jhilli and Parameswar tried to convince them to get separated from each other. However, all their efforts went in vain. The couple was adamant to tie the nuptial knot.

Later, the couple was married off in presence of several people including Jhilli’s husband, the source concluded.
