Woman murdered, another found hanging

Bhubaneswar: A woman was found dead in a hotel room near Mancheswar police station in Rasulgarh Square area here late Thursday night. The deceased has been identified as Laxmipriya Biswal of Kaimatia village in Khurda.
The deceased has been staying at Malipada village on the outskirts of the city since 2012. According to her mother, Laxmipriya married in 2007, but left her husband following a spat over some unreason in 2012.
Recently, she got into a relationship with her absconding lover Aditya Mohapatra after they came into contact during Rath Yatra in Puri. Mohapatra, a resident of Dolamandap Sahi in Puri, is reportedly an engineer with a private company in Bangalore. Biswal and Mohapatra visited Bangalore August 5 and returned to Odisha a few days ago.
Mohapatra visited her rented house at Malipada on many occasions. In the meantime, Laxmipriya informed her mother about their relationship and sought her permission to remarry. Mohapatra and Laxmipriya checked in at hotel ‘Highway Inn’ at Rasulgarh August 22 and also went for shopping Thursday morning. However, her mobile was found switched off from the same evening.
According to the hotel manager, Mohapatra left the hotel Thursday evening saying he was going to withdraw money from ATM to make payment for their hotel stay. However, he neither returned nor answered any calls of the hotel staff. Later, the staff smelled foul play and called the police. Police entered the room by breaking the door that was locked from outside.
Inside, Laxmipriya was found lying in a pool of blood with injuries near her ear. Mohapatra allegedly killed her by hitting her with an iron rod.
Mancheswar police station inspector-in-charge (IC) KP Mishra said they are probing the matter. “Our main target is now to nab Mohapatra and ascertain his motive behind the murder.”
Meanwhile, no CCTV camera is installed at hotel violating of the advisories issued by Commissionerate Police.
In another incident, the body of a woman, Padmalaya Sethi at Palashpalli village under Airfield police station limits, was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her room Thursday night. She was allegedly killed by her brothers and their family members.
She was staying along with her brothers in a house near Kukuteswar temple and had some dispute with her brothers over the ownership of their residential plot. She had lodged several complaints with different authorities claiming ownership of the land.
While the police claim Padmalaya committed suicide, her in-laws alleged murder. Police have registered a case (UD No.20/18) and are probing the matter.
