Rajnagar: A housewife was tied and raped by a fellow villager at Bagapatia near Rajnagar in Kendrapara district, a report said Tuesday.
The incident occurred Sunday night, and the matter came to light after the victim and her family lodged a written complaint with the police Monday. The woman’s husband worked as a migrant labourer elsewhere. The complaint said she was alone at home as her in-laws were away at work.
Police said, quoting from the complaint, “An inhabitant of the same village barged into the house, asking her to give him her Aadhaar card for grant of a free house for her under a government housing schemes. He walked into the house when the woman went inside to fetch the card. He gagged her from behind, tied her limbs using a rope, took her to an isolated place behind the house, and raped her.”
Meanwhile, family members arrived back at the home. They found the woman missing, and searched for her. The brother-in-law and the others heard her screams from the house’s backyard. They rushed to the spot and rescued her while the accused escaped,” police quoted the family as saying.
